ElaEat Privacy Policy
Effective date: 20 October 2026. Contact: hello@elaeat.app.
Your data on your iPhone
ElaEat keeps your profile, meal plans, meal history and assistant conversations on your iPhone. There are no ElaEat accounts and nothing is stored in one.
What leaves your iPhone, and only after you agree
Nothing is sent until you tap Agree on the "Share your data with OpenAI?" screen. After that, when you chat with the assistant or create or change a plan, the app sends the text needed to answer you to ElaEat's server (which runs on Cloudflare), and the server passes it to OpenAI. That text can include your message, parts of your profile (your first name if you gave one, age, sex, height, weight unless you chose not to say, activity level, goals, foods you avoid or like, allergies and other dietary needs, and cooking preferences), the meals being discussed, and short excerpts of earlier chats or meal logs the assistant looks up to answer you. Some of this is health-related. The safety question you answer during setup stays on your iPhone: only one yes/no flag, whether a calorie target is suitable, is sent.
What ElaEat's server keeps
The server does not keep what you send or what comes back. It keeps request records: a random ID for this installation of the app, when each request was made, which feature made it (for example chat or plan generation), its status, and how many AI tokens it used and what that cost. If you allow notifications it also keeps this iPhone's notification token. We use these records to run the service, apply the monthly assistant allowance and understand running costs. They are deleted 12 months after a request settles.
Apple DeviceCheck
When the app first signs in to ElaEat's server, it sends a one-time Apple DeviceCheck token. The server uses it only to ask Apple whether this iPhone already had this month's assistant allowance, so reinstalling the app doesn't reset the allowance. Apple keeps two yes/no values for the device. The server does not store the token.
OpenAI
OpenAI processes what we send in order to answer. Your setup conversation and background plan requests are stored at OpenAI so the assistant can follow the whole setup chat and finish plans while the app is closed. They expire on OpenAI's own retention, about 30 days, and can't be deleted from the app sooner. OpenAI handles data under its own terms and privacy policy, and says that by default it does not train its models on data sent through its API.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data, use it for advertising, build advertising profiles, share it with data brokers or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
Your choices and deleting your data
You can withdraw AI data sharing at any time in Settings. After that nothing more is sent. Settings > Delete your data erases data on your iPhone by category or all at once, and deleting the app removes it all. Because the server keeps no copy of your plans or chats, there is nothing of that kind to delete there. To ask for the request records to be deleted sooner, write to hello@elaeat.app.
Not medical advice
ElaEat gives estimates and suggestions only. It does not diagnose anything and does not replace a doctor or dietitian.
Children
ElaEat is made for adults. If you tell the app you are under 18, it does not set a calorie target, the assistant is told not to suggest losing weight or cutting calories, and the app suggests talking to a doctor or dietitian.
This website and email
elaeat.app uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. It is hosted on Cloudflare, which handles the technical data any website visit needs, such as your IP address, to deliver the page. If you email us, we keep your message and email address only to reply and help you.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update this page and its effective date, and the app will ask for your agreement again when what it sends changes.
